ASTW convention, AGM and gala dinner 2022

This was my first ASTW convention. As a shy newbie, I thought it would be difficult to connect with others. Hardly. The ASTW is a multi-age organisation, from those starting out to seasoned travel journalists.

Everyone I spoke to was warm and welcoming. There was a genuine sharing of knowledge and ideas. This came from the panelists on stage but also from the chit-chat happening around me – the sharing of travel anecdotes, tips, approaches, and even markets. I also loved the vitality the PRs brought to the conference. They genuinely want to meet writers and love a chat.

The AGM surprised me. I was prepared to be bored, but the president’s and treasurer’s reports were both relevant and fascinating, and the meeting was orderly and well run – as was the awards night. The ASTW board is a well-knit group of highly talented individuals who bring many organisational skills and talents to the running of this event.

Everything on the evening worked flawlessly, from the timing of each segment to the dance music. I was on such a high about how well the event had gone I could have danced all night!
